Smart Door Access with Kisi
What Kisi Does
Kisi is a smart access control system. When connected to Co-Desk, it automatically grants members door access when they have an active booking or membership, and revokes it when the booking ends.
Members receive an email from Kisi with their access credentials. They can then use the Kisi app or a key card (if configured) to open your doors.
Prerequisites
Before setting up the Kisi integration in Co-Desk, you need an active Kisi account with your doors already set up in the Kisi dashboard. Contact Kisi directly if you haven't done this yet.
Step 1 — Connect Kisi
- Go to Settings → Integrations
- Click Add next to Kisi Access Control
- Click Add location to assign it to your location(s)
- Click Settings and paste your Kisi API Key (found in your Kisi dashboard under Developer Settings)
- Save
Step 2 — Map Doors to Resources
This is the most important step. You need to tell Co-Desk which Kisi door or group corresponds to each Co-Desk resource.
- Navigate to Door Mappings (accessible from the admin sidebar under Resources, or directly at
/admin/resources/access-control-door-mappings) - Click Create Door Mapping
- Fill in:
- Integration — select Kisi
- Resource — the Co-Desk resource this door protects
- Resource Type — Lock (Door) for a single door, or Group for a Kisi door group
- Provider Resource ID — the numeric door or group ID from your Kisi dashboard
- Provider Resource Name — a label for your reference (e.g., "Main Floor Access")
- Save
Repeat for every resource that has door access.
How Access Is Granted
When a member makes a confirmed booking:
- Co-Desk sends an access invite to the member via Kisi
- The member receives an email and can accept the Kisi invite
- Access is active for the duration of their booking
- When the booking ends, access is automatically revoked
For members on a monthly plan, access is maintained for the duration of their active subscription.
Troubleshooting Access Issues
Member says they can't get in:
- Check that their booking is confirmed (not Pending or Failed)
- Check that the door mapping for their resource is correctly configured
- Check your Kisi dashboard to confirm their access invite was sent and accepted
- If the booking was paid after initial confirmation, contact Co-Desk support — there is a known issue with post-payment access grants
Access was not revoked after booking ended: Check the Kisi dashboard directly. If access is still active there, you can revoke it manually from within Kisi.
Removing the Kisi Integration
Go to Settings → Integrations, find Kisi, and click Disconnect. This removes the API connection. Door mappings remain saved but are inactive until you reconnect.
Common Questions
Do members need to install the Kisi app? Yes — members need the Kisi app on their phone to use NFC or Bluetooth access. Alternatively, if you have configured key cards, they can use those instead.
Does Kisi work for coliving rooms? Yes — map the room or building entrance to the relevant Kisi door group just as you would for coworking spaces.
What happens if Kisi is down? Co-Desk bookings are not affected. Door access via Kisi may be unavailable. You'll need to grant manual access in the meantime and check your Kisi account for service status.
